This Privacy Policy describes how BugLens ("we", "us", or "our"), developed by Intellio Studio, collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our mobile application BugLens (the "App").

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Photos: Images you choose to submit for insect identification. These are sent to our server and third-party AI services for processing and are not permanently stored.
Location data: With your permission, we collect your approximate GPS location to improve identification accuracy by filtering species native to your region. Location data is only used at the time of identification and is not stored.
Device language: We detect your device language to provide results in your preferred language.
Purchase information: If you subscribe, purchase data is handled by Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and RevenueCat. We do not store your payment details.
Usage data: Basic anonymous analytics such as app version and crash reports may be collected to improve the app.

2. How We Use Your Information

To identify insects from photos you submit
To provide location-aware identification results
To process and manage your subscription
To improve the accuracy and performance of the app
To respond to your support requests

3. Third-Party Services

BugLens uses the following third-party services to deliver its functionality:

Insect.id (Kindwise) — insect identification API. Images are sent to their servers for processing. See their privacy policy at insect.kindwise.com.
Anthropic Claude — AI enrichment of identification results. Images are not sent to Anthropic; only text descriptions are processed. See their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.
RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management. See their privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Railway — cloud hosting for our backend server. See their privacy policy at railway.app/legal/privacy.

4. Data Retention

We do not permanently store your photos or location data on our servers. Images are processed in real time and discarded immediately after identification results are returned to your device.

Anonymous usage data may be retained for up to 12 months for analytics purposes.

5. Children's Privacy

BugLens is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction or deletion of your data
Opt out of certain data collection
Withdraw consent at any time

7. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
